The eighth season finale of "Smallville," which will leave two dead, is currently filming in Vancouver, and ET talked to Cassidy Freeman to find out who will bite the dust!
"Gossip Girl," "One Tree Hill," "Smallville," "Supernatural," "America's Next Top Model," "Everybody Hates Chris" and "The Game" will all be returning to The CW this fall, it was announced today by DAWN OSTROFF, The CW entertainment president. She also revealed that the network would get a jump on the competition by launching its Fall 2008 schedule early -- on September 1.
The CW today unveiled its midseason schedule with several series being moved to new dates and times. One such combination is "Gossip Girl" and "One Tree Hill," which will be aired back to back on Monday nights.
The CW today announced pickups of six of its series for the 2008-2009 season. Getting the thumbs up were "America's Next Top Model," "Gossip Girl," "One Tree Hill," "Smallville," "Supernatural" and "Everybody Hates Chris."
Thursday night at 9 o'clock this fall will be the battle of the TV titans as CBS' "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" goes up against ABC's "Grey's Anatomy." ET gets the inside scoop from CRAIG TOMASHOFF, TV Guide's West Coast Bureau Chief, on who will win the ratings race.
"CBS at the moment stands a chance of winning the night because it has two established shows already [and a new show, 'Shark'] that will look and feel like an established show, but ABC stands a very good chance of making some inroads because they have 'Grey's Anatomy,' and are following it with a show ['Six Degrees'] that is very like-minded," he handicaps. "NBC may do well early in the evening because they have the comedies ['My Name is Earl' and 'The Office'], but it is going to be very tough for them after that."
"Beauty and the Geek," airing Thursdays at 9 p.m. on The WB, is back for a second go-round and Executive Producer ASHTON KUTCHER explains how he selected the geeks and the beauties:
"We are really looking for people who are willing to change and step outside their comfort zone and who have things to work on," Ashton says. "We are not looking to make a mean-spirited show. We are looking for guys who are having trouble with their social spectrum, but have something to give. We are looking for girls who may have difficulty answering the tough questions, who didn't have to strive in school to be the best, because they got by on something else, but have something else to offer. Our goal is that everybody leaves the experience a better person."
Those good ol' boys of TV's "Dukes of Hazzard" -- TOM WOPAT and JOHN SCHNEIDER -- are together again! But this time out, they aren't tearing up the roads of Hazzard County in the General Lee, but hooking up as two old friends in "Smallville," airing Thursday night at 8 p.m.
John, of course, is a series regular on the hit WB series, playing Clark Kent's (TOM WELLING) dad Jonathan. Tom is playing Jake Jennings, an old friend of Jonathan's, who stops by to make sure he has the Kent family's support in his bid for reelection to the senate.
There's a lot of new sci-fi TV shows on the fall schedule: "Invasion," "Threshold" and "Surface," but "Supernatural," airing Tuesdays at 9 p.m. on The WB, stands out with its combination of small town ghost stories and exploration of American urban myths. It has been such a ratings success for the network in its time period that it just received a full-season pickup.
The paranormal drama is from "The O.C." exec producer McG, and stars two WB alumni JARED PADALECKI ("Gilmore Girls") and JENSEN ACKLES ("Smallville"), playing brothers searching for evil creatures in a show that each week will take a journey into the dark side.
The WB had two breakout hits this year, "One Tree Hill," starring CHAD MICHAEL MURRAY and JAMES LAFFERTY, and "Summerland," starring LORI LOUGHLIN, which isn't on the fall schedule, but will return mid-season. That said, the frog network still had a lackluster 2003 season, so it is gearing up its staples in hopes of a gangbuster 2004-2005.
There's a big change coming to "Smallville." The producers previously had announced a "no flights, no tights" policy for its teen Clark Kent (TOM WELLING), but this season that promise will be discarded and there will be some flying to be seen. At press time, it is unclear if it is actually going to be Clark -- or his evil twin. Another addition to the series about the man of steel is ERICA DURANCE, who makes her debut as Lois Lane. Watch out, Clark, Lana Lang (KRISTEN KREUK) gets a new love interest in cutie pie JENSEN ACKLES, who previously appeared on The WB's "Dawson Creek." And all of this happens in the season opener.
