It is only two months since David Cook was crowned the "American Idol," but plans for season eight are already underway as are auditions in San Francisco today in the search for the next singing sensation. And according to the show's executive producer Nigel Lythoge, who was at a press conference for another of his FOX shows -- "So You Think You Can Dance" -- not much will change next year.
When the 49-city "Pop-Tarts Presents American Idol Live! Tour 2008," hits your city, David Cook, David Archuleta, Jason Castro, Michael Johns and the rest of the Top 10 will be performing mini-concerts, with just a couple of group numbers thrown into the mix. So each time an "Idol" finalist comes on the stage, it will have an entirely new look.
Season seven's climactic battle of the Davids reached its exciting conclusion on Wednesday night's grand finale. Viewers decisively crowned DAVID COOK the new "American Idol," spurring him to victory over DAVID ARCHULETA by a 12-million vote margin.
"I am absolutely at a loss for words right now," Cook stammered, moved to tears by the emotion of his big moment. "This is amazing. Thank you."
Despite her numerous visits to the bottom two, SYESHA MERCADO's "American Idol" journey took her all the way to the Final 3, but it finally came to an end on the talent competition's Wednesday night results show.
America voted, and they chose to send the Davids -- DAVID ARCHULETA and DAVID COOK -- to next week's "American Idol" finale -- which meant the end of the competition for SYESHA MERCADO.
The naturally poised young woman took the news with her characteristic good humor, singing her final song, ALICIA KEYS' "If I Ain't Got You" with a cheerful smile on her face.
"American Idol"'s final three sang three songs each on the FOX hit on Tuesday night, the first chosen by one of the judges, the second chosen by themselves, and the third chosen by the producers.
For DAVID ARCHULETA's first song, he sang, "And So it Goes" (BILLY JOEL), chosen for him by judge PAULA ABDUL. Judge RANDY JACKSON said, "You're in it to win it baby," while Paula called it "pure and stunning." Judge SIMON COWELL said, "It was very good. No surprises. [It was] a bit predictable, [which is] not really a criticism."

The "American Idol" Final 3 -- DAVID COOK, DAVID ARCHULETA and SYESHA MERCADO -- may be getting attention on the tube but the finalists are also making waves on the Internet -- eBay in particular.
One night after the Final Four raided the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for inspiration, America told JASON CASTRO to keep on rockin' in the free world -- just not on this season's remaining "Idol" shows!
The dreadlocked dudester nonetheless seemed unfazed on Wednesday night's results program when he learned he wouldn't be making the Final Three -- coveted seats now occupied by DAVID COOK, SYESHA MERCADO and DAVID ARCHULETA. "I don't know what I would've done [next week]," Jason laughed, knowing that the Final Three must each sing three tunes next Tuesday.
Only DAVID COOK, DAVID ARCHULETA, JASON CASTRO and SYESHA MERCADO remain in the "American Idol" competition. This week's theme is songs from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Each of the Final Four had to select two songs from the hallowed institution for tonight's performances.
It's down to the final four on this season of "American Idol," and the final lucky crooners (JASON CASTRO, SYESHA MERCADO, DAVID ARCHULETA and DAVID COOK) traveled to Las Vegas this weekend, where they got the VIP treatment at a Saturday performance of the BEATLES'Love by CIRQUE DU SOLEIL. Footage from the show will air on this Wednesday's episode of "Idol."
There is no doubt in SIMON COWELL's mind that this year's "American Idol" finale will be a competition between the two David's -- DAVID ARCHULETA and DAVID COOK -- he indicated at a press conference to promote this summer's "America's Got Talent," on which he is the creator/executive producer.
