The Police played their final gig Thursday night at Madison Square Garden, holstering an ambitious 150-date (and highly lucrative) reunion tour.

At the concert, the Sting-led, legendary reggae-rock trio covered Cream ("Sunshine of Your Love"), Jimi Hendrix ("Purple Haze") and of course broke out plenty of the signature tunes that made them famous, like "Roxanne," "King of Pain," "Every Breath You Take" and a version of "Message in a Bottle" that saw them accompanied on stage by two dozen members of New York City Police band, says the Associated Press.

THE POLICE are about to cast their last message in a bottle. The legendary rock trio fronted by STING announced that they will play their final concert later this year in NYC, the Associated Press reports.

"We kicked off our very first American tour at (former New York club) CBGBs in 1978 and this summer, 30 years later, our journey will come full circle as we play our final show here in New York City," the band said in a statement.

The networks of NBC Universal have big plans for the upcoming Live Earth concerts that will occur around the globe on July 7, featuring heavy hitters such as KELLY CLARKSON, MADONNA, FALL OUT BOY, THE POLICE, KANYE WEST and more.

NBC plans to cover different aspects of the events on all of its networks that day, including a three-hour primetime special on NBC, a live 18-hour broadcast and "best of" moments from the concerts on Bravo, and other highlights on the Sundance Channel, Universal HD, Telemundo, CNBC and MSNBC.

STING once said that a reunion of THE POLICE would only happen when he was declared "insane." Well, that day has apparently come!

The legendary band kicked off their summer tour in Canada on Monday in Vancouver and will play next in Edmonton on June 2.
