WESLEY SNIPES has been sentenced to three years in prison on tax evasion charges, according to the Associated Press.

According to Orlando CBS affiliate WESH, Snipes' judge said he gave the actor the maximum penalty as a deterrent to others, and ruled that he can surrender at a later date, closer to his New Jersey home.

WESLEY SNIPES learned on Friday that taxes are indeed one of two inevitable things in life. The 'Blade' star was convicted on three misdemeanor counts of failing to file a tax return from 1999-2004, according to the Associated Press, though he did manage to dodge federal tax-fraud and conspiracy charges. The 45-year-old actor could be sentenced to three years in prison, the AP reports.

WESLEY SNIPES was arrested Friday on charges of tax fraud, allegedly making $12 million in false refund claims and failing to file tax returns from 1999 through 2004.

Prior to his arrest, the Associated Press reports Special Agent JAMES MORRIS said in court that agents discovered documents in 2002 that led them on a nationwide investigation into fraudulent trust funds.
