The three-and-a-half month strike that saw thousands of screenwriters and others in the entertainment industry put out of work is finally over, the Writers Guild of America announced on Tuesday. Guild members in Los Angeles and New York voted to end the strike.
The board of the Writers Guild of America has voted unanimously for a membership vote to ratify a new three-year contract, which would end an over three-month-long strike that has crippled television and film production, and we have an interview with WGA West President PATRIC M. VERRONE.
"We got the contract completed, our membership remained unified and we got substantially what we wanted," he says. "Going forward, we actually have a strong and vital union that makes writers feel good about themselves. I'm, in a way, both elated and relieved."
ET confirms the news that Vanity Fair has canceled its annual Oscar Party -- the hottest ticket of the Hollywood awards season.
Although recent reports put the Writers Guild of America close to ending the months-long strike that has crippled Hollywood, the mag released a statement today, saying, "After much consideration, and in support of the writers and everyone else affected by this strike, we have decided that this is not the appropriate year to hold our annual Oscar party. We want to congratulate all of this year’s nominees and we look forward to hosting our 15th Oscar party next year."

See All: WGA strike
The Oscar telecast will go on as scheduled this year despite the Writers Guild of America strike, according to the Associated Press.
Celeb members of the Screen Actors Guild have said they will not cross WGA picket lines -- as a result, the usually glitzy Golden Globe award telecast was scrapped this year in favor of a nominee-free press conference.
The Writers Guild of America, West has announced that the union has come to an interim agreement so that its writers will be allowed to write material for the upcoming Grammy awards.
Guild president PATRIC M. VERRONE released a statement Monday afternoon that reads: "Professional musicians face many of the same issues that we do concerning fair compensation for the use of their work in new media. In the interest of advancing our goal of achieving a fair contract, the WGAW Board felt that this decision should be made on behalf of our brothers and sisters in the American Federation of Musicians and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists."
Despite attempts by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and DICK CLARK Productions, which produces the Golden Globes, to make an interim agreement with the Writers Guild of America, the union still plans to picket the awards show to be held on January 13.
The striking WGA released a statement on Wednesday afternoon that reads, "Dick Clark Productions is a struck company. As previously announced, the Writers Guild will be picketing the Golden Globe Awards.
The WGA announced on Thursday that it has come to an interim agreement with Film Independent, the organization that produces the Independent Spirit Awards.
The Writers' Guild released a statement saying: "Film Independent came to us before the strike, and the WGAW Board decided to grant an interim agreement allowing for writing services for the Spirit Awards. The best way to get the awards season back on track is for the AMPTP to return to the bargaining table to negotiate a fair deal with the Writers Guild to get this town back to work."
The WGA has declined a request for striking writers to be allowed to write for the Golden Globes, which will be held in Beverly Hills on January 13. They have also turned down a request by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for a waiver related to using clips of films and past shows for the Oscars.
In a statement released Monday, the WGA reported that they had "concluded, reluctantly, that granting exceptions for the Golden Globes or the Academy Awards would not advance" their goal.
After Friday's announcement that "Tonight Show" staffers would be out of their jobs, People mag is reporting that JAY LENO does intend to pay the salaries of the laid-off employees -- out of his own pocket.
The Hollywood Reporter had reported Friday that when NBC announced that production on the show was shutting down, employees became emotional, some crying and shouting, when learning the news. They had been reportedly told by Leno to "relax" and not to worry because they would continue to be paid. Many were also dissatisfied with their Christmas bonuses which were reportedly as little as $200 for staffers who had worked at the show for several years. However, this new report from People suggests that Leno is following through on his promise.
The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers released a statement late on Thursday, announcing that they had made an offer to WGA strike negotiators, and that the WGA is looking over the offer, and they'll get back to the table on December 4.
