Jeffrey Tambor Hasn't Exited 'Transparent' Despite Earlier Statement
A rep for the actor told the 'New York Times' that 'no final decision for next year has been made.'
Jeffrey Tambor's fate on Transparent is still up in the air.
The 73-year-old actor, who portrays Maura Pfefferman on the Amazon show, seemingly announced his departure from the series last month after two accusations of sexual harassment from the show's team, both of which he has denied. But according to a new article from the New York Times, no final decision has been made just yet.
"What he said was that given the toxic atmosphere and the politicization on the set, it's very hard for him to see how he can possibly return," a representative for Tambor told the New York Times, referencing the statement Tambor released on Nov. 19. "But no final decision for next year has been made, either by Jeffrey or by Amazon."
ET reached out to Tambor's rep for clarification. "Jeffrey has nothing to add to the statements he previously issued regarding Transparent," the rep shared.
In the original statement, Tambor said that playing the role of Maura Pfefferman on Transparent has been "one of the greatest privileges and creative experiences of my life."
"What has become clear over the past weeks, however, is that this is no longer the job I signed up for four years ago," he continued. "I've already made clear my deep regret if any action of mine was ever misinterpreted by anyone as being aggressive, but the idea that I would deliberately harass anyone is simply and utterly untrue. Given the politicized atmosphere that seems to have afflicted our set, I don't see how I can return to Transparent."
Tambor released the statement after being accused of sexual harassment by former assistant Van Barnes and Transparent co-star Trace Lysette. Additionally, an investigation into the actor's behavior on the set of the series was launched earlier this month.
