Damon appeared on The Daily Show on Wednesday, when he was asked about Affleck's huge back tattoo of a phoenix. Affleck's colorful ink was put on full display for the first time last week, when he filmed shirtless scenes for his new film, Triple Frontier, in Hawaii.

Previously, Affleck had downplayed the tattoo's existence, telling ET in March 2016 that there hadn't been "a good representation of it in the media."

Damon had a sense of humor about his pal's eye-catching ink, telling host Trevor Noah, "It's not one man's job to tell another man what he can do to his back."

"I support him in all of his artistic expression," he added with a laugh.

The Downsizing actor also joked about their long-running friendship.

"Unfortunately, I can't seem to shake him," he said of Affleck. "I've known him since I was 10, so it's 37 years."

Of course, Damon isn't the only person close to Affleck who has an opinion on his massive tattoo. Affleck's ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, threw some not so subtle shade at the ink during her revealing tell-all to Vanity Fair in February 2016.

"You know what we would say in my hometown about that? 'Bless his heart,'" Garner cracked of the bold tattoo. "A phoenix rising from the ashes. Am I the ashes in this scenario?"

"I take umbrage. I refuse to be the ashes," she added.
