Maude Apatow Explains the Concept of a Slumber Party in 'The House of Tomorrow' Clip (Exclusive)

House of Tomorrow

ET has an exclusive look at the coming of age drama, which stars Alex Wolff, Asa Butterfield and Nick Offerman.

There's a lot going on in the coming-of-age story, The House of Tomorrow: Geodesic domes and heart transplants, punk bands and overbearing grandmas, and the real-life futurist Buckminster Fuller. The movie, directed by Peter Livolsi, is adapted from Peter Bognanni's novel of the same name and much of the above-mentioned is touched on in this exclusive clip, which explains the concept of a geodesic dome and introduces the Buckminster-following grandmother played by Ellen Burstyn.

However, what ultimately confuses Sebastian (Asa Butterfield), the reclusive teen living in that dome, is the concept of a sleepover.

"This place could be sick for an overnight with a bunch of people," Meredith (Maude Apatow) tells him. "Y'know, like a sleepover? A slumber party? It's like a party where people sleep over." When he reckons that sounds like fun, she offers, "I can tell you if there's one in your future. I read palms."

Here is the movie's official synopsis:

"16-year-old Sebastian Prendergast (Butterfield) has spent most of his life with his Nana (Burstyn) in their geodesic dome home tourist attraction where she raises him on the futurist teachings of her former mentor, Buckminster Fuller, in hopes that one day Sebastian will carry Fuller’s torch and make the world a better place.

But when a stroke sidelines Nana, Sebastian begins sneaking around with Jared (Alex Wolff), a chain-smoking, punk-obsessed 16-year-old with a heart transplant who lives in the suburbs with his bible -banging single father Alan (Nick Offerman) and teenage sister Meredith (Apatow). Sebastian and Jared form a band and with his Nana’s dreams, his first real friendship, and a church talent show at stake, Sebastian must decide if he wants to become the next Buckminster Fuller, the next Sid Vicious, or something else entirely."

The House of Tomorrow opens in select theaters on April 27.
