'General Hospital' Leads Daytime Emmy Awards Nominations

Nominations for the 38th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards were announced today, with ABC soap "General Hospital" leading the way with 21 nominations

despite rumors that the show will be canceled to make way for Katie Couric's rumored new show on ABC, which reportedly could take over the long-running soap's time slot.

Among "General Hospital"'s nominations are "Outstanding Drama Series," and nods for Laura Wright and Maurice Benard for "Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series" and "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series" respectively.

The "Outstanding Talk Show" category this year also has some fierce competition with the "Rachael Ray" show, "The Ellen DeGeneres Show", "Live with Regis and Kelly" and "The View", all competing for the coveted Emmy.

In addition, the ladies of "The View", Sherri Shepherd, Barbara Walters, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg, will be up against Rachael Ray, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa, Dr. Mehmet Oz, and Dr.Travis Stork, Dr. Andrew Ordon, Dr. Jim Sears and Dr. Lisa Masterson of "The Doctors", in this year's "Outstanding Talk Show Host" category.

Longtime host of "Wheel of Fortune" Pat Sajak, and "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek, will both receive Lifetime Achievement Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, hosted by Wayne Brady, are set to air live from Las Vegas, June 19 at 8:00 P.M. on CBS.
