Meghan Markle Leaving 'Suits' After Prince Harry Engagement

Will Patrick J. Adams also exit?

Meghan Markle is saying goodbye to the courtroom and hello to the royal palace!

The 36-year-old actress, who announced her engagement to Prince Harry on Monday, is officially leaving Suits after the current seventh season completes its run, USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, the studio that produces the series, announced on Tuesday.

“From all of us at USA Network and Universal Cable Productions, we want to send our most heartfelt congratulations to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry on their engagement,” the joint statement reads. “Meghan has been a member of our family for seven years and it has been a joy to work with her. We want to thank her for her undeniable passion and dedication to Suits, and we wish her the very best.”

It is unclear if Patrick J. Adams will be joining Markle in an early departure from Suits. Though rumors circulated earlier this month that Adams was eyeing a potential exit, it would make sense as both Adams and Markle’s characters are engaged to be married on the show.

Speculation that Markle would leave Suits first surfaced after her romance with Prince Harry went public in 2016. Now, Markle turns her attention from acting to preparations for her upcoming nuptials to the 33-year-old Brit. They are set to get married at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in May 2018.

The couple sat down together for the first time for a post-engagement interview on Monday, where Markle revealed that she doesn’t view her transition to becoming a part of the royal family as her “giving anything up.” “I just see it as a change,” she said during the sit-down with BBC News.

"It's a new chapter, right?" Markle added. "Keep in mind I have been working on my show [Suits] for seven years, so we're very fortunate to have had that longevity in a series, and for me, once we hit the 100-episode marker, I thought, 'You know what? I have ticked this box and I feel very proud of the work I have done there.' It's time to, as [Harry] said, work as a team with you."

Following news of Markle’s engagement on Monday, her Suits family, including Adams, Wendell Pierce and creator Aaron Korsh, took to social media to congratulate the bride-to-be.

Suits returns for the second half of season seven in early 2018.
