Talk about a super gathering! 'Megamind' star Will Ferrell was joined by a giant crowd of costumed superhero wannabes Saturday morning in Los Angeles, with some celebrity pals by his side. Did they break the Guinness World Record?
In the spirit of his new, animated superhero comedy 'Megamind' (co-starring the vocal talents of Brad Pitt and Tina Fey), Will attempted to assemble at least 1,501 of his closest superfriends to claim the Guinness World Records title for "Largest Gathering of Superheroes." After the crowd was counted, it was announced that they broke the record, with a total of 1,580 heroes!
"I plead for the audience to stay in their costumes for the entire month of October, so I figure that would be another record," joked Will, adding of his kids' approval, "[This movie] might be the first thing that I've done that they might actually think I'm cool."
Superhero god and Spider-ManFantastic Four/X-Men mastermind Stan Lee was also at the event, and he mused, "The reason I like to do a lot of projects is there's a better chance of getting cameos." Although he doesn't lend his voice to any character in 'Megamind,' he joked, "I thought that's why they called me here."
The world record attempt marked the kickoff of "MegaMonth," an official month dedicated to 'Megamind' events across the country in celebration of the November 5 release of 'Megamind' in 3D.
