Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie are strangers on a train who find romance and thrills against the breathtaking backdrop of Paris and Venice in 'The Tourist,' and we're behind the scenes in the romantic City of Canals!
"He's definitely an everyman who is approached by this enchantress, this unbelievably beautiful, interesting, cultured vixen, and is taken on the ride of his life," explains Johnny of his character. "What would you do? How far would you go? How much danger would you allow yourself to be in, just for the possibility of whatever poetry might commence between you and that woman?"
In theaters December 10, 'The Tourist' finds Johnny as Frank, an American traveler on an impromptu trip in Europe to mend his broken heart. After a flirtatious encounter with a beautiful stranger named Elise (Angelina), a whirlwind romance develops that soon becomes a deadly game of cat and mouse.
"She's one of those women that lives in a world of quiet luxury and elegance," says Angelina of her character. "She's very much a lady, and who she is is a bit of a mystery that unfolds through the film."
This is the first time that Johnny and Angelina have worked together, and Johnny sees his co-star as "kind of a walking poem," saying, "She's this perfect beauty, but at the same time very deep, very smart, very clever, very funny, and also has a very perverse sense of humor. She's great fun."
Angelina returns the favor, saying the idea of working with Johnny was "a dream of mine. … There's something very likable about him. He's a nice person, and I think that kindness and that fun comes across in anything he does. But this is more of a traditional leading man [role] for him, so it's been kind of fun to get to watch him play that traditional leading man, but he is bringing a real charm to it."
