Former "Dancing with the Stars" pro Julianne Hough is in final negotiations to star opposite Tom Cruise in 'Rock of Ages,' the big-screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical.
Hough tweeted, "Seriously you guys!!! I'm dying right now... I'm so excited and can't wait for this journey of Becoming Sherri! It all starts... NOW!!! :)"
'Hairspray' director Adam Shankman is directing the script written by Chris D'Arienzo.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shankman called Hough, "nothing short of a miracle" during the audition process.
"It was a star-is-born moment," Shankman continued.
Hough, 22, will play Sherrie, the small town girl who comes to Hollywood looking for the dream. Her character immediately garners the attention of Cruise, who plays the heavy metal rocker Stacee Jaxx. She later rejects him and becomes a stripper before finding love.
Other stars to sign on to the project include Mary J. Blige and both Alec Baldwin and Russell Brand are reportedly in talks.
Production on the film is expected to start in May, but first catch Hough in the highly-anticipated remake of 'Footloose,' which opens in October.
