Ryan Phillippe's Failed Plan to Spread Dating Rumor

Ryan Phillippe has been rumored to be dating Amanda Seyfried and the actor made fun of some the gossip on the Hollywood red carpet of 'The Lincoln Lawyer' premiere on Thursday.

"I tried to get one of my friends to be my date and start some other rumors but no," said Phillippe who showed up dateless for the event.

In 'The Lincoln Lawyer,' criminal defense attorney Michael "Mick" Haller (Matthew McConaughey) gets his big break, landing a case defending a Beverly Hills playboy (Phillippe) accused of attempted murder. The case goes from Haller's dream job to unimaginable nightmare as the story unfolds.

"I just enjoyed playing a bad guy," said Phillippe. "It's a lot of fun."

McConaughey arrived on the red carpet with his family and friends in tow.

"The special part for me is I've got probably 50 people who kind of supported me through all the stuff I do," said McConaughey.

Although the two are at odds in the movie, McConaughey and Phillippe were able to connect off-screen on a personal level.

"I've been a father for over a decade now and he's a relatively new father so it was fun to kind of exchange thoughts and ideas about what that whole venture is like," Phillippe said.

'The Lincoln Lawyer' opens March 18.
