'Captain America: The First Avenger' Premiere an 'Avengers' Reunion With Evans, Downey Jr., & Hemsworth

Let's hope the villains of the world didn't take notice Tuesday night as a veritable bevy of superheroes hung up their spandex for the night to attend  the Los Angeles premiere of 'Captain America: The First Avenger'.

'Thor' star Chris Hemsworth and the 'Iron Man' himself, Robert Downey Jr. hit the red carpet in support of their 'Avengers' castmate Chris Evans ('Captain America'). Downey says, "I've been looking forward to this for a long time, and you know he is the original gangster Steve Rogers so we've gotta make sure this pans out nicely."

As 'Captain America: The First Avenger' focuses on the evolution of Steve Rogers into the Super Soldier known as Captain America, the 2012 film 'The Avengers' brings together Marvel heroes at the direction of Samuel L. Jackson's character, Nick Fury.

Jackson tells ET it was important to be at the premiere Tuesday night because his character is a central person to bring 'Captain America' into being, and he's simply "glad to be a part of this whole series with Chris."

Directed by Joe Johnston, 'Captain America: The First Avenger' also stars Tommy Lee Jones as Col. Chester Phillips, Stanley Tucci as Dr. Abraham Erskine, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes and Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter.

'Captain America: The First Avenger' opens July 22, 2011, and 'The Avengers' is scheduled to hit theaters May 4, 2012.
