The intense weather caused by Hurricane Irene deterred many East Coast moviegoers from going to theaters over the weekend, but the rest of the nation took advantage of the free A/C that a dark screening room provides.
The Help ranked at No. 1 again, pulling in $14.3 million. This was enough to beat out Colombiana and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, which brought in $10.3 million and $8.6 million, respectively.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes also made $8.6 million over the weekend, which lifted its cumulative box office earnings to an impressive $148.4 million in its fourth week out.
