'The Road Warrior'
Way before his DUI and subsequent recorded angry rants made headlines, Mel Gibson defined the vengeful anti-hero in the 1979 cops vs. biker gangs thriller Mad Max. Its incredible post-apocalyptic 1981 sequel, The Road Warrior, then redefined the cinematic chase scene with an extended, larger-than-life climax along the deserted highways of the Australian outback -- complete with dune buggies, gyrocopters, a sand-filled oil tanker and human bodies acting as car bumpers.
