This HBO miniseries, aired in the months leading up to the 1988 presidential election, is a memorable political mockumentary written by Doonesbury creator Garry Trudeau and directed by Robert Altman. The storyline, told from a variety of points of view, follows former Michigan rep Jack Tanner's (Michael Murphy) bid to secure the Democratic party's nomination for president. Shot on the actual campaign trail, the miniseries features cameos by such real-life political figures as Bob Dole, Kitty Dukakis, Jesse Jackson, Pat Robertson and Gary Hart.
