'Holy' Monty Python History Lesson

By JARETT WIESELMAN

April 03, 2012

Starting in 1969, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones & Michael Palin (better known as Monty Python) redefined comedy and became a global phenomenon thanks to their various film and TV series.

Now, a new movie -- Holy Flying Circus, premiering April 7 at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. PT on Ovation -- chronicles the controversy that swelled up around the release of the 1979 classic, Life of Brian. Thanks to religious imagery and boundary-pushing comedy, Brian enraged various religious groups all over the world and turned the one-time comedy gods into national pariahs.

The film, written by Tony Roche (In the Loop), not only impeccable casts this iconic troupe, but also reveals a fascinating, never-before-seen story -- watch an exclusive ETonline sneak peek and tune in Saturday for the American premiere of Holy Flying Circus!
