"It's kind of a metaphor for life; there's always bumps and hurdles you've got to get over, but through it all your family is always there and will always support you. That's kind of what the message is underneath it all," said Ray about the movie. "So the kids are having fun, but they're learning a good thing."

Ray, Latifah, John, Aziz and Keke surprised fans with a special Q&A before the screening, and then took time to take pictures with them.

In theaters Friday, the fourth movie in the popular franchise finds Scrat the prehistoric squirrel's nutty pursuit of the cursed acorn -- which he's been after since the dawn of time -- having world-changing consequences: a continental cataclysm that triggers the greatest adventure of all for Manny, Diego and Sid. In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home.
