Plot details of the new James Bond movie Skyfall starring Daniel Craig have been tightly sealed For Your Eyes Only, but now a few Diamonds of information may give you a Quantum of Solace until the November release of the highly anticipated thriller. Read on for a few spoilers…
The new issue of Entertainment Weekly, on stands Friday, features Sean Connery on the cover -- alongside fellow 007s Pierce Brosnan, Timothy Dalton, Roger Moore, George Lazenby and Craig -- and features 26 pages devoted to Her Majesty's most enduring spy as he celebrates his golden anniversary (the franchise started in 1962 with Dr. No).
The issue also includes a sneak peek at Skyfall, with **SPOILER ALERT** details revealed by director Sam Mendes and producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli: Javier Bardem's villain, Silva, "knows a bit about M (played by Judi Dench) and MI6" and "is involved in a revenge," says Wilson, while Broccoli reveals that Albert Finney plays a mysterious character "from Bond's past." Rumors have also floated that M will die and be replaced by a government agent played by another Bond newcomer, Ralph Fiennes, but are they true?
"She is a central part of the plot, and MI6 is a central part of the plot," is all Mendes will reveal. "And London is a central character in the movie. There's a huge sequence in the middle that is very much set right in the middle of London."
Talking about taking on the epic scale of a Bond movie -- and the third turn for Craig -- Mendes (American Beauty, Revolutionary Road) says, "I came from smaller movies. I’ve done movies on a bigger scale, but not as big a scale as this. … It's weird because you come in and someone has already explored the role, and so you're not in that position of starting on equal footing. But I was very clear about what I felt he hadn't yet done. We thought exactly the same about where the character could be taken."
Mendes also humors the question by EW of whether or not Craig is "presented as a hot individual in this film," saying, "How can you not present him as a hot individual? He is a hot individual! You mean, are there any bod shots? How can I put this? Yes, I guess there are moments when he is [hot], absolutely. But the truth is… It's tied in… There's a reason in the story why…I can't say!"
Among the other tidbits included for fans and Bond-philes alike in the new EW are a guide to all 22 Bond movies so far, a map to the Bond Universe, a behind-the-scenes photo gallery, and a Q&A with George Lazenby, who reveals, "They offered me millions under the table to do another one, but I thought James Bond was over."
