Joss Whedon to Captain 'Avengers' Sequel

Good news, superhero fans: Disney has announced that The Avengers god Joss Whedon will officially return to write and direct the sequel to the year's biggest hit -- plus he has another superhero saga up his sleeve…

According to The Wrap, in addition to Whedon's involvement with the sequel to the blockbuster that has raked in nearly $1.5 billion worldwide, Disney CEO Bob Iger said during a conference call with analysts that Whedon is developing a live-action TV series on ABC based in the Marvel universe. No further details have been released, however.

A statement from Marvel Studios confirms to ET, "Joss Whedon has signed an exclusive deal with Marvel Studios for film and television through the end of June 2015. As part of that deal, Whedon will write and direct Marvel's The Avengers 2 as well as help develop a new live action series for Marvel Television at ABC. He will also contribute creatively to the next phase of Marvel's cinematic universe."
