From Patrick Swayze's smooth moves to its hit soundtrack and quotable lines, Dirty Dancing may have started a bit slow out of the gate at the box office back in the dog days of summer '87, but it soon became a word-of-mouth hit and a pop culture phenomenon, making it the No. 1 home video rental of 1988.
