The Possession terrified the competition away for the second weekend in a row. 

The horror flick, starring Kyra Sedgwick and Jeffrey Dean Morgan, pulled in $9.5 million for the weekend, edging out Shia LaBeouf's crime drama Lawless, which earned $6 million.

In third, Bradley Cooper and Zoe Saldana's The Words brought in $5 million, putting it nearly neck-and-neck with The Expendables 2 (with $4.7 million) and The Bourne Legacy ($4 million).
