Intimidating is one of the last words often used to describe an animated family movie, but the term seemed to aptly describe Selena Gomez's mood going into Hotel Transylvania.

"I was really nervous, because they're incredible. They're some of the greats," said Gomez, who co-stars alongside Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Kevin James and Fran Drescher.

In the film, Selena Gomez plays Mavis, Dracula's 118-year-old teenage daughter, who sends her father (voiced by Adam Sandler) into overprotective daddy mode when she falls in love with a 21-year-old human named Jonathan (voiced by Andy Samberg).

"Me and my buddies -- we wrote the movie together," Sandler told us at the movie's New York special sneak screening on Saturday. "Mostly, I did it to make sure my kids like me. That mission is semi-accomplished."

Hotel Transylvania opens September 28.
