Seth MacFarlane Chosen to Host Oscars
October 01, 2012
Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane has been selected to host the 85th Academy Awards.
The announcement was made Monday by the producers of the Oscars show, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. "We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh," the producers said in a joint statement.
MacFarlane said he considered it "an overwhelming privilege" to be selected for the honor. "My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don't find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast," he said. MacFarlane posted the video above on his Facebook page.
In addition to being behind the FOX comedy series Family Guy, American Dad! and The Cleveland Show, MacFarlane made his feature directorial debut this summer with the film Ted, which brought in more than $420 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films of the year. He also hosted the recent season premiere of NBC's Saturday Night Live.
The 85th Academy Awards -- put on by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences -- will be broadcast live from the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center on Sunday, February 24 on ABC.
