Stars Pay Tribute to Comedy Legend Eddie Murphy
November 05, 2012
Some of Hollywood's biggest stars came together over the weekend to pay tribute to comedy legend Eddie Murphy and ET was on the red carpet and also spoke to Eddie backstage after the show.
Among those attending the star-studded "One Night Only" event were Jamie Foxx, Arsenio Hall, Stevie Wonder, Tracy Morgan, Martin Lawrence, Wayne Brady, Chris Rock, Keenen Ivory Wayans and Russell Brand. The show was taped Saturday in Beverly Hills and will air as a special, Eddie Murphy: One Night Only, on November 14 on Spike TV.
"It's an honor for me to be here for my greatest comedy hero," Morgan said of the night's honoree. "He is the Ali of our generation." Brady called Eddie the "cornerstone of American comedy" and Brand said it was about time the comedian was formally honored by his peers.
Keenen Ivory Wayans spoke about the historic strides Eddie was able to make during his groundbreaking career. "When you're friends with someone, you kind of lose sight of all the things that they've done. So having time to reflect on all the things Eddie has accomplished... he's really transcended in a way that no one has ever done."
Arsenio Hall -- who is set to debut a new late-night syndicated talk show -- said he still considers Eddie to be family. "We're like brothers. And it's very strange in this town to have a friendship for all these years because there are so many things that can interfere with a friendship because we're in the same business."
