Closer Look Into Emotional 'Les Miserables'

Get out the tissues, because Les Miserables will be here before you know it, and if the second trailer for this highly anticipated musical is any indication, it's going to be a tearjerker.

The beloved Broadway characters Jean Valjean (Hugh Jackman), Fantine (Anne Hathaway), Javert (Russell Crowe), Cosette (Amanda Seyfried), Madame Thénardier and Thénardier (Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen), Marius (Eddie Redmayne) and Éponine (Samantha Barks) all hit the big screen this December with some surprising singing performances from a number of A-list actors.

In case you're not familiar with Les Mis, the movie is based on Victor Hugo's classic novel set in 19th-century France, in which a paroled prisoner named Jean Valjean (Jackman) seeks redemption. "The idea of singing live is daunting," Jackman said in a behind-the-scenes featurette about performing on set instead of recording the songs separately in a studio. "But what it gives you is this freedom."

Les Miserables hits theaters Dec. 25.
