From Damages to The Newsroom to The Mindy Project, Chris Messina has never lacked for good material, but he took a more proactive role in his latest project, the heart-warming and heartfelt Fairhaven, which is inspired by a story he co-wrote.

Joining Messina in the film are Sarah Paulson, Mad Men's Rich Sommer and Tom O'Brien, who co-wrote the source material with Messina as well as direct and write the feature film.

Set in a small fishing village on the Massachusetts coast, Fairhaven is the story of three friends, who have reunited for the funeral of Dave's (Messina) estranged father, which brings him back to the town her abandoned a decade earlier.

The film not only examines the enduring impact unrequited love can have on one's heart, but also nostalgia's transportational quality; forcing you to look long and hard at the choices that have brought you back to this place. Back to Fairhaven.

Fairhaven opens January 11 in theaters and is available on VOD starting January 15.
