'Hansel & Gretel' Storm Weekend Box Office

Jeremy Renner's action movie Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters topped the weekend box office by debuting with $19 million.

The modern update of the classic fairytale by Germany's Brothers Grimm features Renner and co-star Gemma Arterton as grown-up versions of the title characters violently battling witches.

Coming in at No. 2 was the horror flick Mama, which scared up $12.8 million during the weekend, followed by Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper's dramedy Silver Linings Playbook, which took in $10 million.

Taking fourth place was Jessica Chastain's s terror thriller Zero Dark Thirty, which earned $9.8 million, followed at No. 5 by the crime thriller Parker -- starring Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez -- which earned $7 million.
