Pulling in $42.2 million, Oz bested newcomers The Call (starring Halle Berry) and The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (starring Steve Carell and Jim Carrey).

The Call performed better than predicted, landing in second place with $17.1 million, as THR reports that the thriller only cost about $13 million to produce. Wonderstone fell short of expectations with $10.3 million for third.

Jack the Giant Slayer and Identity Thief rounded out the top five with $6.3 million and $4.5 million, respectively.
