Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine are a restless quartet that cuts loose in Spring Breakers, and the stars tell ET's Rocsi Diaz that while their racy sex scenes and practically all-bikini-all-the-time wardrobe challenged their limits as actors, they stand proudly by their product.
"We're entertainers, we love what we do, acting is a passion," says Gomez, who is balancing the R-rated Spring Breakers release with a special return episode of her no-longer-running Wizards of Waverly Place on Disney Channel. "We wanted to do something that would take us to a place that we're passionate about. … I think at the end of the day we're proud of this movie and the decision we made we stand by and we love it."
Expanding into more theaters Friday, Kids and Gummo director Harmony Korine helms this blur of flesh, flash and beer bong beach parties that follows Brit (Benson), Faith (Gomez), Candy (Hudgens) and Cotty (Korine), best friends anxious to hit the Florida coast party scene but very low on funds. After holding up a restaurant for quick cash, the girls are thrown in jail, but quickly bailed out by a local rapper, drug pusher and arms dealer who calls himself Alien (played by an almost unrecognizable James Franco). Soon the girls are lured into a criminal underworld scene that's both shocking and exciting -- and clearly spells more trouble for the aimless friends.
"It was our first sex scene, which was terrifying," says Hudgens of a racy onscreen three-way with Franco and Benson, who agrees, "It was definitely nerve-wracking, but anytime we felt off, or didn't feel like it was right, Harmony would always come in and make sure to fix whatever it was and for all of us to always feel comfortable."
