On May 7th, 2011, Shane Bitney Crone tragically lost the love of his life, Tom Bridegroom, in a freak accident when Tom fell from the roof of a building in Los Angeles. The pair met six years prior and immediately hit it off. They fell in love and built a life together with intentions to marry one day if it became legal.

But while Shane's family lovingly accepted his homosexuality and his relationship, Tom's family refused to accept their son's sexual orientation – and banned Shane from Tom's funeral.

And because they weren't married or prepared for the unexpected, Shane lost all legal claim to Tom after he died, despite the fact that they bought a home and started a business together.
On May 7th, 2012, Shane – who used to work for the Entertainment Tonight family -- posted a video on YouTube to honor the love of his life and show the world what can happen when two people are not legally protected and barred from having access to marriage. The video went viral and passed two million views within 7 days.
