Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy turn the buddy cop genre on its head with The Heat, their new comedy from Bridesmaids director Paul Feig, and the real-life buddies riffed off one another in Sin City as Melissa prepared to received her Star of the Year Award.
"I can't believe how lucky I am, and then to get any kind of recognition seemed like too good to believe," said Melissa.
"She's been at this awhile and she's worked her way up," said Sandra of her co-star and friend. "This was not an overnight story. There is a tremendous background and work ethic that has gone into this amazing career."
"You're saying I'm old?" a deadpan Melissa asked Sandra.
"I'm just saying that since you were two, you've accomplished a great deal," replied Sandra, trying to keep a straight face. "But now that you're only 25, it's amazing where you've come from."
In theaters June 28, The Heat casts Sandra as Sarah Ashburn, an uptight FBI Special Agent forced to team up with Melissa's foul-mouthed Boston cop Shannon Mullins. The two couldn't be more incompatible, but when they join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies.
