Tom Hanks takes on the frightening, true-life tale of the cargo ship captain who went toe-to-to with modern-day Somali pirates in Captain Phillips, and we have a first look at the edge-of-your-seat trailer…
In theaters October 11, the film casts the two-time Oscar winner as Captain Richard Phillips, whose US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama was overtaken by Somali pirates in 2009, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in 200 years. Quick to defend his ship from the machine-gun wielding attackers, his ship was nonetheless boarded and he had to face life-and-death decisions in protecting his crew and cargo.
Also starring Catherine Keener, Captain Phillip teams up Hanks with Oscar-nominated director Paul Greengrass, whose visceral camera style defined such films as United 93, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum.
