The rules of the "Reach for Reacher" contest were simple: The contestants with their hand on the car the longest got to keep it – no leaning on the car was allowed, and the contenders had to engage in various challenges too (15-minutes bathroom breaks every hour and food served every six hours helped keep it from being an impossible task). Italo Ciccarelli, a USC student originally from Italy who drives a 1997 Honda Civic with 355,000 miles, entered the contest because he really needed a new car, and after close to 35 hours he proved to have the greatest endurance – and drove home with the brand-new car.
