Lord of the Flies

The classic William Golding novel has been adapted to film twice – first in 1963 and then in 1990. The tale of a group of British schoolboys whose plane is shot down over a deserted tropical island, what follows is a fascinating and frightening look at human nature as the boys attempt to govern themselves and quickly devolve into warring factions. While many consider the black-and-white 1963 film to be superior, the 1990 version manages to hold its own thanks to fine performances including Ralph, played by a young Balthazar Getty.
