In theaters nationwide July 19, Only God Forgives casts Gosling as Julian, an American fugitive from justice in Bangkok who runs a boxing club as a front for his drug operation. When Julian's brother, Billy, savagely murders a young prostitute and is killed in retaliation, their mother (played by Kristin Scott Thomas), the head of a vast criminal organization, arrives from the U.S. to collect the body of her favorite son and demands vengeance.

But before Julian can collect the heads of his brother's murderers from Julian, he must confront a mysterious retired policeman, Chang (Vithaya Pansringarm), who has resolved to clean up the corrupt underworld of brothels and fight clubs.
