Exclusive Clip: J.J. Abrams Talks Trekkies
June 20, 2013
J.J. Abrams is still enjoying the box office success of the latest installment of the Star Trek movie series, Star Trek Into Darkness, and we've got an exclusive clip of the prolific producer/director discussing the expanding appeal of the franchise beyond hardcore "Trekkie" devotees.
"There is no way to really qualify what makes a Star Trek fan," Abrams says in a clip from the upcoming special edition DVD release of the documentary Trek Nation. The film -- originally released in 2011 -- serves as a tribute to Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry by his son, Rod Roddenberry, and includes loads of great bonus content and extended interviews with Star Trek actors, writers and fans.
Abrams expounds on the different types of Star Trek fans and how they've evolved over the years. "With the latest film, I think that you don't have to be wearing a star fleet uniform, or pointy ears, or be in alien makeup, to be someone who loved the experience of that movie," he said.
Watch the video for more of Abrams from the special edition DVD, which is set to be released July 9.
