The Smurfs are back for more big-screen fun July 31, and the cast of this summer's smurfiest new flick are opening up to ET about the much-anticipated sequel.
"The storyline is really heartfelt," explains the voice behind Smurfette, Katy Perry, whose character is kidnapped by Vladamir (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) in the film after he learns she has a secret spell that can turn the evil sorcerer's newest creation, the Naughties, into real Smurfs.
"It's like everybody goes through these, kind of, coming-of-age growing pains, questioning existence," she adds. "In some ways, she's almost, like, turning into a teenager. She's like, 'Why am I here? What am I doing?'."
Neil Patrick Harris, Christina Ricci, Hank Azaria, Jayma Mays, John Oliver and George Lopez also join Perry for the sequel which hits theaters July 31, 2013.
