Will Fans Embrace Evangeline Lilly's 'Hobbit' Elf?

Evangeline Lilly plays an Elf to be reckoned with in the upcoming The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, and she tells ET that she's excited and a bit trepidatious about the reception of her character by hardcore fans, seeing as her character is not in the original Hobbit tome by J.R.R. Tolkien.

"People are going to love to hate her because she's not in the book, and I think it will be really easy for her to come under wrath and fire from die-hard Tolkien fans," says the former Lost star. "Knock on wood, I don't think she will, because Peter [Jackson] and Phillipa [Boyens] and Fran [Walsh] have created such a cool character, and I just don't think it's possible to not like a ginger-haired, pointy-eared, bow-slinging, knife-wielding, Orc-killing female Elf! What is there not to love about that?!"

Evangeline was at Comic-Con this year to debut her new children's storybook called The Squickerwonkers, the first in a planned graphic children's storybook series.

"I just had a child two years ago, and I'm very excited about making content for the little ones," says Evangeline, who credits Dr. Seuss as her key inspiration. "This is a sneak peek exclusive for Comic-Con … because I think this crowd, they hold the bar really high, and I want to see what their reactions are to the book."
