While this new trailer for the Richard Ayoade-directed feature The Double doesn't focus much on plot, dialog or even general themes, it does have a lot of Jesse Eisenberg in a tan suit, facing off against a duplicate of himself, and that has to count for something.
The Double is based on a short story by classic novelist Fyodor Dostoyevsky, about a man who goes insane after he discovers that his doppelganger has taken over his life. In this short trailer, the moody and atmospheric tones of a film about a man losing his mind are clearly on display, and the lack of any concrete details about the movie just heighten its strangeness.
Alongside Eisenberg, the film stars Alice In Wonderland's Mia Wasikowska, and veteran actor Wallace Shawn. The film is directed by comedian Richard Ayoade, best known for his performances in the hit British sitcom The IT Crowd, and in 2012's The Watch. He has directed one other film, Submarine, a coming-of-age comedy released in 2011.
There is no American release date set for The Double, but it debuted on September 7 at the Toronto International Film Festival.
