Franco Brings Tragic Biopic to Screens with 'Sal'

By

James Franco's movie directing streak continues with this new trailer for Franco's film Sal, a biopic about actor Sal Mineo.

The film focuses on Mineo's life after he skyrocketed to fame with acclaimed performances in Rebel Without a Cause and Exodus, both of which nabbed him Oscar nominations.

However, in the 1960s his career rapidly declined. In an attempt at a comeback, Mineo began staging a play, which became successful, and he and the play moved out to Los Angeles.

Sadly, not long after coming to LA, Mineo was stabbed to death in his apartment's parking lot.

Sal's comeback attempt and untimely demise seem to be the film's major focal points. The film's intimate shooting style and powerful subject matter could make for a very emotionally-charged and unusual work of art.

Sal
will be released on Video On Demand October 22, with a limited theatrical run beginning November 1.
