When it was announced that Oldboy, Chan-wook Park's 2003 cinematic classic, would be getting a Hollywood remake, there were a lot of skeptics. As the cast and crew took shape -- Josh Brolin, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson and Sharlto Copley would star for director Spike Lee -- our doubts were slightly assuaged.
Then the first footage from Spike Lee's new vision for Oldboy was released and all remaining fears were instantly transformed into unbridled anticipation thanks to the trailer's stylish visuals, live-wire performance and a clear dedication to the shocking source material.
ETonline scored an exclusive clip from Oldboy that showcases the film's two most important performances: Brolin as Joe Doucett and Elizabeth Olsen as Marie. I think you'll agree that their chemistry is spot on, as is the tone of dread infused throughout every single frame.
Oldboy opens in theaters on November 27.
