The trailer for Marvel's new superhero action-adventure film Guardians of the Galaxy premiered online on Tuesday, and from this glimpse into the Guardians' world, the film is going to be a careful balance of humor and jaw-dropping action that worked so well for Marvel's Iron Man series.
In this trailer we are introduced to the fresh new heroes. Chris Pratt, from the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, stars as Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, who is a renegade thief and dashing rogue who really isn't as talented as he would like to think.
We also meet the menagerie of strange heroes that join Quill, forming the eponymous Guardians, including the gorgeous, green Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista), the living tree-creature Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) and the gun-crazy Rocket Raccoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper.)
It's a brave new world for Marvel films, and as Guardians of the Galaxy may prove, the company has many great franchises and characters in its history that they have yet to bring to the big screen.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set to burst into theaters on August 1, 2014.
