Matthew McConaughey has been a prominent actor in Hollywood for years, but what was he like when he was just starting out in show business?

ET first interviewed the Oscar-winning actor in 1993, when he was 23-years-old, on the set of Angels in the Outfield, and he was excited to have so much fun doing what he loves.

“It’s the American dream isn’t it,” the 44-year-old said about filming the baseball comedy. “I’ll tell you what. When they said we’re going to fly him out here to play ball for ten weeks, and I’m getting paid for it! How about that?”

The hunk has had quite the career since he was interviewed by ET more than 20 years ago. He tied the knot with Brazilian model Camila Alves in 2012. The beautiful couple has two boys named Levi, 5, and Livingston, 15-months, and a daughter, Vida, 4.

Aside from his personal accomplishments, Matthew has also managed to have enormous success in his career. He took home the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in Dallas Buyers Club, starred in the first season of the critically acclaimed HBO series True Detective, and has been in several memorable films including How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Magic Mike, and The Wolf of Wall Street
