This was the classified add that told people how to contact The Equalizer in the classic 1980s television action series of the same name. Now, Denzel Washington is bringing his unique skills of intimidation to the role in director Antoine Fuqua's feature film adaptation, and Columbia has released new stills from the upcoming thriller.

In the film, Washington plays a former government agent named Robert McCall who tries to live a simple life in retirement but can't help himself from fighting for those who need help. McCall becomes a vigilante for the helpless and destitute.

Chloe Grace Moretz plays a young prostitute who seeks McCall's help when she gets in trouble with the Russian mob.

Fuqua previously worked with Washington on the cop drama Training Day, which earned Washington an Academy Award. If their work in the past is any indication, The Equalizer could turn out to be a much grittier remake of an 80s action show than Joe Carnahan's slick tongue-in-cheek 2010 adaptation of The A-Team

Below is another first look still, featuring Denzel as McCall, standing in the rain with a gun, looking like he's ready to take on an army, and the film's poster released earlier last week.

The Equalizer is set to hit theaters September 26, 2014.
