The story was detailed in the trio of acclaimed Paradise Lost documentaries by filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky and later by Peter Jackson's West of Memphis, and celebrities including Johnny Depp, Eddie Vedder, Hnery Rollins and Natalie Maines championed their cause and campaigned to free them from behind bars.

The West Memphis three were ultimately imprisoned for close to two decades before being released in 2011; although they would ultimately not admit guilt, they were not found to be wrongfully convicted and have yet to be fully exonerated.

Also starring Amy Ryan, Mireille Enos, Stephen Moyer, Alessandro Nivola and Dane DeHaan, Devil's Knot was directed by Atom Egoyan and will be in theatres and on iTunes and VOD May 9.
