By

We all love Helen Mirren, but will we love her even more when she plays a snooty French restaurant owner? Oprah Winfrey and Steven Spielberg think so, and have put their money where their mouth is by co-producing The Hundred-Foot Journey, a new culinary comedy based on the bestselling book by Richard C. Morais. Watch the video...

Channeling the art-house success of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, The Hundred-Foot Journey follows a displaced Indian family that decides to open an Indian restaurant, the Maison Mumbai, in the south of France, ruffling the feathers of the proprietress of a nearby top-rated French restaurant -- and igniting a war between the two establishments.

Still, good food is good food, and Mirren's proprietress soon finds her icy exterior melting with the help of a little hot curry -- and chooses to take her competitor's young Indian culinary ingénue under her wing. Manish Dayal, Om Puri and Charlotte Le Bon co-star.

Directed by Lasse Hallström, The Hundred-Foot Journey cooks in theaters August 8.
