Cast of 'How To Train Your Dragon 2' On The Film's Soaring Popularity

DreamWorks' massive animated hit How To Train Your Dragon has now spawned two sequels, the first of which premiered today in Westwood, and the stars of the film walked the red carpet and even got to play with an animatronic Toothless, the dragon hero of the franchise.

One thing that all the stars could agree on is how exciting and even surprising it is to see how large the film's following has become, and the love kids and parents alike have for the franchise.

"I don't think any of us could predict what happened with the film. The audience that came to it," said America Ferrera, who plays the Viking heroine Astrid in the movie. "When I saw the first film I was blown away, and I felt so proud to be a part of such a beautiful story."

Ferrera's co-star, Jay Baruchel, the voice of Hiccup, was surprised by the first film's success, but loves that it's become something important to the fans.

"I thought was really good, but I never thought it would be a global phenomenon," said Baruchel. "It's this amazing massive trilogy that means a great deal to a lot of people, and I think you could work your entire career and never be part of something half as impactful as this."

Gerard Butler, who plays Hiccup's massive Viking father Stoick The Vast, said that the sequel to the film is actually more fun than the first, and can even captivate the minds of adults.

"I'm really happy with how it turned out," said Butler. "I'm like little kid when I watch it. I'm kind of like, 'Whoa! Really?' It's stunning."
